Story You Wanted to Tell

By: Emily Carrington
What was your first story you wanted to tell?
November is National Novel Writing Month, and it thrives on the idea that many people have a novel waiting inside them. Whether you’ve ever written down your story or not, what tale have you always wanted to tell?
I know my mom yearns to write a story about the “fairy lights” she could see in Carbondale, PA when she was a kid. These were the lights from the helmets of the coal miners, and she learned much from talking with these hard workers and their families. My first story was basically a retelling of the abuse I endured as a far-too-young married woman. I’ve been known to say that the first story in Dragon in Training , which is a box set, is basically the tale of how I survived… minus the genie and the handcuffs. I’m not telling you this to gain sympathy but to give you hope. We *can* survive and thrive, no matter what the world has planned for us. It’s definitely not easy, but I will say it can be possible.
